Wildflower springs, festival summers, golden autumns, and cozy winters — every season in the Smokies has its own kind of magic.
Spring & summer · Festivals and long days
Spring brings wildflowers to the national park and milder days before the summer crowds. Summer is the busiest season: warm weather, full attraction schedules, and Dollywood’s summer events. Book lodging early, start your days early, and expect heavier Parkway traffic in June and July.
Autumn · The famous fall colors
October is many visitors’ favorite month, when the Smokies turn gold and crimson. It is also one of the busiest times, so reserve cabins and Dollywood tickets well ahead. Early November often keeps the color with noticeably thinner crowds.
Winter · Quiet streets and holiday lights
From November through February, Pigeon Forge glows with Winterfest lights, and the town is at its calmest after the New Year. Some attractions run reduced schedules, and mountain roads can close in ice or snow, so check conditions before you travel. For the lowest prices and smallest crowds, aim for mid-January through early March.
